These are the 20 most wishlisted games on Steam among players worldwide.
I looked at the most anticipated PC titles among gamers, based on each RPG and turn-based strategy game’s current follower count. (September 2026)
Please note that wishlist ranking and follower count are separate measurements. SteamDB displays a game’s position on the wishlist chart, but the numerical audience figure beside it represents Steam followers. Actual wishlist totals are not publicly available, so each entry below labels these figures separately.
In any case, with few surprises, the list features some of the most promising RPGs and strategy games currently in development, including many of my personal most anticipated titles.
1. Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000
Developer: Creative Assembly
Release Date: TBA
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S
Global Steam Wishlist Rank: #7
Steam Followers: 132,102
Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000

We kick things off with a franchise that needs no introduction and has built an incredible following over the years. I’m talking about Total War, and its new chapter, which moves into Warhammer 40,000 and retains the distinction between a turn-based campaign and real-time battles, but expands the strategic map to planetary conquest.
Capturing worlds, developing strongholds, managing fleets, and maintaining a war economy support the fighting on the ground. Four announced factions- Space Marines, Orks, Aeldari, and Astra Militarum, bring different armies and approaches to warfare, with customization extending to warband appearance, traits, and equipment.
During battles, infantry, armored vehicles, and towering war machines fight across destructible environments, where bombardments can remove cover and reshape the battlefield. It is therefore a hybrid strategy game, with long-term decisions made between turns and direct army control once combat begins.
2. Persona 4 Revival
Developer: ATLUS
Release Date: February 18, 2027; Steam currently displays February 17
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S
Global Steam Wishlist Rank: #18
Steam Followers: 54,897
Persona 4 Revival

Persona 4 Revival rebuilds Persona 4 Golden. A group of students discovers a connection between the killings and the mysterious Midnight Channel. Its structure alternates between everyday commitments and expeditions into a world populated by Shadows.
Studying, extracurricular activities, part-time work, and friendships compete for time, while the relationships formed outside combat strengthen the party’s capabilities.
Battles revolve around exploiting weaknesses, coordinating All-Out Attacks, and acquiring and fusing Personas to expand the protagonist’s options. The remake updates the presentation, interface, combat, and cutscenes while retaining the central connection between managing a school calendar and preparing for the next investigation.
3. Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy
Developer: Owlcat Games
Release Date: TBA
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S
Global Steam Wishlist Rank: #28
Steam Followers: 62,096
Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy

The Warhammer universe shows up in all shapes and forms on this list, and this might be the one that suits my tastes best.
Dark Heresy approaches Warhammer 40,000 through the work of an Inquisition acolyte, placing investigations alongside party-based tactical combat. Operating in the Calixis Sector, the protagonist examines evidence, interrogates suspects, and decides how to respond to suspected corruption and heresy.
The accompanying warband includes characters with conflicting backgrounds and loyalties, from an Imperial Guardsman to a Kroot mercenary. Turn-based encounters emphasize identifying enemy weaknesses and managing morale, while conversations and investigative decisions shape the wider story.
The result is an RPG centered on assembling a case as well as assembling a combat-ready party, with the Inquisition’s authority framing the choices available to the player.
4. Persona 6
Developer: ATLUS
Release Date: TBA
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S
Global Steam Wishlist Rank: #51
Steam Followers: 29,769
Persona 6

It’s hard to argue with the roughly 29,769 followers who currently have Persona 6 on their wishlist. The new entry in the acclaimed JRPG series introduces a new cast and a standalone story, returning to the series’ focus on the relationship between daily life and supernatural conflict.
School, friendships, and romance occupy one side of the experience; urban legends, occult incidents, and the awakening of Persona abilities occupy the other. ATLUS describes relationships as a source of strength, linking social development to the characters’ ability to confront supernatural threats.
There aren’t many details yet, and it doesn’t explain new combat or dungeon systems in detail. For now, the confirmed premise is a standalone entry that doesn’t require following the plots of earlier numbered games.
5. Threads of Time
Developer: Riyo Games
Release Date: TBA
Platforms: PC, Xbox Series X|S
Global Steam Wishlist Rank: #82
Steam Followers: 35,218
Threads of Time

One of the most followed games is also one of the games at the very top of my personal wishlist. I’m talking about Threads of Time; I love it simply because it’s a JRPG, my absolute favorite genre, because it features the kind of pixel art I absolutely love, and because of the unofficial Chrono Trigger legacy it carries with it.
Threads of Time follows a party recruited from different historical periods, taking its adventure from prehistoric landscapes to technologically advanced civilizations.
Restoring the Time Knights and protecting the timeline provides the framework for exploring these eras and bringing their characters together. Combat is turn-based, with team attacks and time-related powers used to coordinate the party’s offense and break through enemy defenses.
Those combinations make party relationships relevant to how battles unfold, not just to the story. Visually, the game places pixel-art characters inside three-dimensional environments, using its changing time periods to move between distinct settings without abandoning that presentation.
6. FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE
Developer: Square Enix, LANCARSE Ltd.
Release Date: October 22, 2026
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2
Global Steam Wishlist Rank: #87
Steam Followers: 22,712
FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE

Final Fantasy Resonance uses an HD-2D presentation for an adventure built around party-based exploration, and I’ll add: finally, a new turn-based entry in the series.
Exploiting an enemy’s weaknesses can stagger it, break its defenses, and create opportunities for additional turns and Resonance attacks. Party customization also involves Visions: echoes of established Final Fantasy characters that fight alongside the team using their own abilities.
Beyond the main journey, optional encounters include the Colosseum, the Chamber of Arms, and battles involving familiar figures such as Gilgamesh and Ultima Weapon. A playable demo covers the first chapter and supports save transfer, providing an opportunity to examine the combat and party systems before release.
7. Sea of Remnants
Developer: Joker Studio
Release Date: 2027
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, iOS, Android
Global Steam Wishlist Rank: #119
Steam Followers: 25,606
Sea of Remnants

In seventh place is Sea of Remnants. A free-to-play ocean adventure RPG about a puppet-like sailor attempting to recover lost memories. Voyages connect island exploration, crew recruitment, ship customization, naval encounters, and party-based turn-based battles.
Crew members bring different skills and professions, while ship upgrades change the equipment available for expeditions.
Between journeys, the pirate city of Orbtopia serves as a place to trade, improve equipment, interact with its inhabitants, and take part in activities such as fishing and mahjong. Character relationships and decisions also influence the city, giving the return to port a role beyond simply repairing the ship and preparing for another trip.
8. Guildrun
Developer: Leyline
Release Date: TBA
Platforms: PC — Windows and macOS
Global Steam Wishlist Rank: #127
Steam Followers: 15,734
Guildrun

This one surprised me a little. I obviously know Guildrun and have even talked about it in the past, but I didn’t realize it had this many followers and wishlists. As for the game itself, it’s a PvE roguelite autobattler in which recruiting and developing a guild determines how the team performs once fighting begins.
Heroes, equipment, relics, and specializations interact to produce different builds, including combinations that move characters away from their initial roles. A healer, for example, can become a frontline unit with the right setup. Randomized choices encourage you to adapt the roster during a run instead of assembling the same party every time.
Battles resolve automatically, so the emphasis falls on understanding the team’s synergies and adjusting its build. No competitive PvP requirement or decision timer, and runs can be saved and resumed.
9. Shroom and Gloom
Developer: Team Lazerbeam
Release Date: September 10, 2026 — Early Access
Platforms: PC — Windows and macOS
Global Steam Wishlist Rank: #168
Steam Followers: 12,626
Shroom and Gloom

Shroom and Gloom divides its first-person dungeon crawling between two decks. One handles turn-based combat against fungal creatures; the other governs exploration, card modification, and access to new weapons and abilities.
Developing individual cards is as important as collecting replacements, with upgrades capable of turning modest starting attacks into the foundation of a build.
Recovery also feeds into combat: enemies can be roasted and eaten to restore health, or used as ingredients for soups with additional benefits. Hand-drawn characters inhabit three-dimensional dungeon spaces, but the central decisions concern how the two decks support each other and how aggressively to develop their combinations.
10. Shadow of the Road
Developer: Another Angle Games
Release Date: November 12, 2026
Platforms: PC
Global Steam Wishlist Rank: #179
Steam Followers: 24,864
Shadow of the Road

I’ve been following Shadow of the Road for a long time and have given the game plenty of coverage on TBL. Judging by the numbers, I’m clearly not the only one eagerly awaiting this RPG and its distinctive setting.
It takes place in an alternate version of Japan in 1868, where civil war involves samurai, yōkai, and steam-powered machinery. Two rōnin, Satoru and Akira, are recruited to protect a boy whose supernatural abilities draw them into a larger conflict.
Additional companions join the journey, bringing their own motivations, relationships, and combat skills. Turn-based encounters depend on assembling a party whose abilities work together, while personal goals and relationships also influence those encounters.
Away from battle, choices can strengthen or damage friendships and family ties. The historical setting consequently serves as the basis for a party-driven fantasy RPG, not a strictly historical military campaign.
11. Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter
Developer: Nihon Falcom
Release Date: September 17, 2026
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2
Global Steam Wishlist Rank: #211
Steam Followers: 11,886
Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter

Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter continues Estelle’s story as she searches for Joshua and confronts the organization threatening the Kingdom of Liberl. Its combat includes action-oriented Quick Battles alongside command-based encounters, expanding the available options with new Crafts and S-Crafts.
The Brave Rush system links character attacks during Quick Battles, while orbment customization determines access to Arts and helps shape each party member’s capabilities. Returning characters and new playable allies broaden party selection, with fishing, poker, and cooking providing activities outside the main investigation.
Clear data from the 1st Chapter also unlocks bonus items, reflecting the sequel’s direct connection to the preceding adventure.
12. Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake
Developer: Ubisoft
Release Date: 2027
Platforms: PC
Global Steam Wishlist Rank: #231
Steam Followers: 14,233
Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake

In a bit of a surprise, Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake was announced during Gamescom 2026, and its wishlist count skyrocketed. It revisits the original game and both expansions with a fully three-dimensional presentation.
The familiar strategic structure remains central: heroes explore the adventure map, gather resources and artifacts, develop towns, and recruit armies before entering turn-based tactical battles. Nine factions provide different creature rosters and approaches to army construction.
The remake also brings the campaigns together with additional prologue and epilogue material, while online play supports up to eight participants alongside local turn-taking options. Map and campaign editors extend the package beyond its included scenarios, allowing players to build and share adventures around the same exploration, development, and combat systems.
13. Mars Tactics
Developer: Takibi Games
Release Date: 2026
Platforms: PC
Global Steam Wishlist Rank: #258
Steam Followers: 21,179
Mars Tactics

Mars Tactics connects turn-based squad combat to a planet-wide conflict between Capital and Labor. The two sides operate under different resource and logistical conditions, while the strategic layer involves outposts, research, production, and the movement of forces.
On the battlefield, destruction changes the available options: explosives can remove buildings, open firing lanes, or create trenches for cover. Suppression also interacts with action points, allowing pressure on an enemy to reduce its options and create additional opportunities for allied units.
Soldiers develop traits through their actions, and equipment can be shared during combat. Individual engagements therefore affect both the terrain and the squad that returns to the wider campaign. The game has been hit by several delays, but development is moving forward, and it could end up being the XCOM-like you didn’t see coming.
14. SacriFire
Developer: Pixelated Milk
Release Date: 2026 on PC; console timing TBA
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch
Global Steam Wishlist Rank: #260
Steam Followers: 13,973
SacriFire

Speaking of delays, there’s SacriFire, another highly anticipated title with a strong following that has been pushed back several times and still doesn’t have a release window.
It follows Ezekiel Ridan, a young priest drawn into a conflict that challenges the beliefs underpinning his society. The story moves between the underground city of Antioch and the spiritual realm of Erebus, blending fantasy religion with science-fiction elements.
Its battle system blends real-time and turn-based mechanics, with different weapons and combat disciplines supporting multi-part attack combinations. Crafting, dungeon exploration, and puzzles accompany the party’s development outside combat.
The visual presentation places pixel-art characters in three-dimensional environments, but the mechanical distinction is its battle structure: this is not a conventional menu-only JRPG in which every participant simply waits for a separate turn.
15. Parasite Mutant
Developer: IceSitruuna
Release Date: TBA — currently listed as “Coming soon” on Steam
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5
Global Steam Wishlist Rank: #314
Steam Followers: 13,350
Parasite Mutant

Another title I didn’t expect to have this much of a following is Parasite Mutant. Not that it doesn’t deserve it; I tried the demo, and there are definitely some interesting ideas here.
There’s also a clear nod to Parasite Eve, not just in the title but in some of its mechanics, and that connection may be exactly what’s drawing in the vast majority of players following this RPG. Parasite Mutant is a science-fiction horror RPG starring Nova, a psionic agent investigating an abandoned island city inhabited by mutated creatures.
Its Active Time Chains system divides the action gauge into three segments, letting players use attacks early or save them for a longer sequence. Movement and evasive positioning remain relevant while that gauge fills, connecting resource management with avoiding incoming attacks.
Exploration uses a semi-fixed third-person camera and includes environmental puzzles, while equipment modification provides another route for improving Nova’s capabilities. The game also includes New Game Plus progression and additional areas, extending character development beyond the initial investigation.
16. Hero’s Adventure: Another Tale
Developer: Half Amateur Studio
Release Date: 2026
Platforms: PC
Global Steam Wishlist Rank: #393
Steam Followers: 13,044
Hero’s Adventure: Another Tale

Hero’s Adventure: Another Tale follows a young man from a wealthy family who leaves his studies behind to enter the martial world of the jianghu.
Set against renewed factional struggles, the adventure develops through encounters with characters whose ambitions and martial techniques influence the protagonist’s journey. Combat uses a turn-based structure, with Shield Break Combos and Team Skills encouraging coordination between companions.
Decisions shape the path taken through this world, including the relationships established along the way. Pixel-art exploration is supplemented by illustrated scenes, while the underlying progression centers on learning martial techniques, finding allies, and deciding what kind of life to pursue outside the protagonist’s former social position.
17. Kriegsfront Tactics
Developer: Toge Productions
Release Date: TBA
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch
Global Steam Wishlist Rank: #523
Steam Followers: 10,587
Kriegsfront Tactics

I’d bet that a large portion of this game’s roughly 10,000 followers are people who, like me, grew up with Front Mission, because Kriegsfront Tactics definitely captures that same vibe.
It places a mech squad behind enemy lines in an alternate version of 1970s Southeast Asia. Managing pilots, maintaining machines, and securing resources support a campaign built around turn-based tactical encounters and procedural elements.
Mechs can be rebuilt with salvaged components, replacement weapons, and different configurations, making recovery and maintenance part of the progression between battles.
Pilots bring individual traits and histories, while exploration introduces encounters and decisions beyond direct combat. Its low-poly presentation recalls earlier tactical mech games, but the campaign also incorporates roguelike influences, with the squad’s available equipment and condition shaping how it handles the next operation.
18. Alliance of the Sacred Suns
Developer: KatHawk Studios
Release Date: TBA
Platforms: PC
Global Steam Wishlist Rank: #585
Steam Followers: 12,510
Alliance of the Sacred Suns

Alliance of the Sacred Suns casts the player as an individual emperor attempting to preserve a fractured interstellar empire. Noble houses, governors, and other influential characters control resources and political support, so appointments and personal relationships matter alongside economic and scientific development.
Each turn provides a limited number of action points, forcing a choice between projects, diplomacy, and other responsibilities. The ruler also ages and accumulates stress, making health and rest practical concerns within the campaign.
Crucially, the game follows that emperor’s lifetime instead of an uninterrupted succession of interchangeable rulers. Its strategy is therefore tied to both the empire’s condition and the capabilities of the person trying to govern it.
19. Project Haven
Developer: Code Three Fifty One
Release Date: TBA
Platforms: PC
Global Steam Wishlist Rank: #707
Steam Followers: 10,388
Project Haven

Project Haven follows the Steel Dragons, a mercenary crew taking contracts in Earth’s last city. Its turn-based combat uses free movement rather than a conventional grid, while attacks can be aimed manually from an over-the-shoulder perspective.
Targeting an arm or leg has different consequences, and simulated projectiles make positioning and the physical environment relevant to a shot’s outcome. Weapon handling also involves magazines, ammunition types, chambering, and penetration, alongside options such as stealth and hacking.
Between missions, earnings support equipment purchases and character development. The handcrafted campaign supports solo and cooperative play, with procedural skirmishes providing additional encounters outside the main story.
20. Roman Empire Wars
Developer: Emperor Games
Release Date: TBA
Platforms: PC
Global Steam Wishlist Rank: #744
Steam Followers: 14,373
Roman Empire Wars

And I’ll close out this list of the most anticipated RPGs and strategy games of 2026 with another large-scale strategy title that echoes some of the mechanics of Total War: Warhammer, but with a historical setting. Roman Empire Wars centers on commanding Roman armies through large-scale real-time battles.
The announced scope includes campaigns across regions such as Greece, Persia, Egypt, and Britain, with warfare on land and at sea. During engagements, the emphasis falls on issuing orders, flanking opposing formations, and changing plans as the battlefield develops.
Different Roman unit types form the armies used in these campaigns. Although the Steam page carries user-defined turn-based tags, the developer’s description explicitly presents the fighting as real-time strategy. It belongs here as part of the broader strategy selection, not as a confirmed example of turn-based tactical combat.
It was really interesting for me to go through this list and get a better sense of where the market is heading and what players are looking forward to. Of course, there are some games that, to me, are inexplicably missing from the top 20, while others somehow made the cut. And I’m not talking about the quality of the games themselves, to be clear, but rather their overall scope, which in some cases is much smaller. Maybe some of these titles have simply done a better job than others when it comes to marketing and strategic moves in that regard.
That said, let me know what you think, whether there was anything on this list you hadn’t heard of before, and what’s on your personal wishlist. See you in the next article. Ciao
