Since it had been a while since the last indie showcase, a bunch of new RPGs announced over the past month naturally piled up, so putting together this list of 15 really promising titles came together pretty easily.
All of them are still in development, and many don’t have a release date yet, though some already offer a playable demo. Either way, the most important thing you can do right now is add each one to your wishlist; it’s a simple move that directly helps support the developers behind them. Ascenders: Beyond the Peak

Ascenders mixes the primal fear of heights with that of the unknown, putting you in charge of a team of expert climbers making their way up a mountain face in search of eldritch treasure. You’ll have to manage the team’s tethers and positioning while contending with the elements to make it to the top alive, and there are secrets within the mountain that may be better left undisturbed.
This is shaping up to be a tense turn-based roguelite that’s well worth an attempt on its fabled peak, if you dare. It’s expected to arrive sometime this summer, so be on the lookout!
Vaunted

Vaunted is a colorful, stylish tactical RPG with a fun narrative twist. Like the classic film The Usual Suspects, your gang of intergalactic criminals is being questioned about their adventures after the fact.
Each time you die, you’re forced to replay the story, adding in the bits that you may have left out the last time. Will the truth come out through your actions and choices? Or is it better to leave your interrogators with a believable lie?
There’s no set release date for Vaunted yet, but given its overall look and feel, we’re very excited at the possibility of seeing it launch this year.
Hibera, Requiem for the Forgotten

Hibera feels like classic Fire Emblem, right down to its retro-style pixel graphics and familiar weapons triangle. It chooses to go for a more realistic look with its character designs, though, bringing a bit of gravitas to its tale of politics, sacrifice, and war.
If you’re looking for an old-school SRPG experience with fun flourishes like fog of war, Hibera: Requiem For The Forgotten could turn out to be a great option from an indie dev. It hasn’t been scheduled for a release date yet, so be sure to add it to your Wishlist and follow it to keep track of when it will arrive.
Apathema

Inspired by classic first-person CRPGs and soulslike precursor King’s Field, Apathema won’t be for the faint of heart.
If you don’t mind a challenge, though, it offers a dark, weird fantasy world to explore where you not only have to fight for survival, but also unravel the secrets of your own cursed existence.
Apathema is the kind of creative take on familiar conventions that make indie games so exciting, so if you’re ready to descend into the Chasm, be sure to keep an eye on it. No release date has been announced, so it could still be some time.
Into the Crypt

Into The Crypt seeks to make the roguelite deckbuilder experience more immersive by offering a first-person perspective. As you explore the game’s procedurally-generated dungeons, you’ll encounter foes that need to be defeated with your trusty deck, all without ever coming out from behind the visor of your helmet.
At the end of the day, there’s no arguing with a solid deckbuilder, so we’re excited to see how this new spin on the genre turns out when it releases later this year.
Soverain: An Eternal Legend

If you’re looking for an SRPG experience that’s visually closer to the GBA Fire Emblem games, Soverain captures the look and feel while adding a few tweaks of its own. Namely, you’ll have to contend with titanic monsters in addition to the usual hordes of nameless soldiers. Throw in a tale of fate and friendship, and this could be an indie winner!
Eternal Legend‘s Kickstarter is still in the pre-launch phase, so it’s probably going to be a while before the game itself sees the light of day. That means there’s time to support it from the beginning when the campaign begins, though!
Stellar Freight: Endless Horizon

Do you think you could make the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs? Stellar Freight gives you the chance to prove it by putting you in command of a cargo ship in a dangerous corner of the galaxy. Will you take the fast, risky route for a big payout, or play it safe in this sci-fi roguelike?
Fighting off pirates and aliens while coming up with new loadouts for your ship sounds like a blast, so we’ll certainly want to check Stellar Freight out when it arrives sometime later in 2026.
Grey Legend: Survivors

In this tactical, turn-based survival sim, you’ll have to lead your group of scavengers in the decades following the collapse of civilization. It’s not zombies that did the world of humans in this time, though – it was an alien attack, and they’ve come back to finish the job. How your survivors interact with one another will be just as important as how you command them in battle in this ambitious title.
Grey Legend isn’t expected to launch until sometime in 2027, but that’s okay – these things take time, after all! If you’re looking for some post-apocalyptic flavor that’s a bit different from normal, this is definitely a title you’ll want to Wishlist.
Black Sailors

If you’re in the mood for some turn-based naval combat in the Age of Sail, Black Sailors lets you fight against colonialism and oppression by commanding a crew freed from slavery and seeking justice. You’ll need to assign crew members to roles aboard the ship that fit their skills, and master the winds and momentum to win battles where you’re often outnumbered and outgunned.
Black Sailors is very cool in both concept and design, so we’ll be excited to give it a try. There’s no word on when it will launch, so be sure to give it a wishlist and follow, and keep an eye out for any possible demo down the line.
Empeiria

Empeiria is eye-catching by virtue of its hand-drawn visuals alone, but dig a little deeper and you’ll find some good old-fashioned fantasy world-building to match. As one of the many victims of a sprawling Empire, you’ll forge a band of companions in hopes of reaching the Grand Tournament, with no less a prize than immortality for the champion.
If Empeiria is even nearly as cool as it looks, it’ll prove to be a memorable fantasy story wrapped up in a solid RPG. Watch for it to arrive later this summer.
Goddess of Strategy

Goddess of Strategy mixes SRPG gameplay with Greek mythology, challenging you to restore the power of Olympus in grid-based battles against dangerous foes. Not only will you level up your heroes in the classic fashion, but you’ll also earn the blessings of the gods to further refine their playstyles.
Goddess of Strategy doesn’t have a firm release date, so we may not see it until the end of the year or beyond. If you love class-based tactics, though, it will be worth the wait!
Terrinoth: Heroes of Descent

Terrinoth is a legendary dungeon-crawling board game that’s spawned a fantasy world with a cult following, and now Terrinoth brings that experience to PC. With 20 enormous dungeons and 8 character classes, there’s plenty to explore… and that goes double if you assemble a party of friends for co-op.
Terrinoth is set to arrive sometime in 2026, but precisely when hasn’t been nailed down. There is a free demo available on Steam right now, though, so check it out!
Tattered Banners

If you love the unrelenting mercenary gameplay of Battle Brothers or Wartales, then Tattered Banners could very well be your next big adventure.
The world will grow around you as the ambitions of nobles lead to the rise and fall of entire cities, but of course, you’ll have your own part to play. Which forces you throw your lot in with, and whether you succeed in your endeavors, will shape the world for years to come.
Tattered Banners is expected to launch into Early Access in late 2026, with a full release six to twelve months after that.
Sonic Terror

This is a weird one in all the best ways. In Sonic Terror, a nightmare dystopia rules with the help of alien beings who are harmed by music. Naturally, as the last garage punk band in existence, it’s your job to save the world… if personal differences don’t get in the way of rock greatness, of course.
With a soundtrack that adapts to your performance in combat and a story worthy of a bizarre concept album, Sonic Terror looks like great fun for music fans and RPG fans alike. You can request access to the playtest via its Steam Page, and be sure to wishlist and follow it to get updates on the as-yet-unannounced release date.
Sovereign Tower

With its lovely art and visual-novel-style management gameplay, Sovereign Tower feels like sitting on the throne. Of course, ruling means delegating, and the knights of the realm are a strange bunch. You’ll have to juggle your subjects’ stats, egos, and needs to keep the kingdom together.
Sovereign Tower looks like it will be a fun role-playing experience backed up by enchanting visuals, so be ready to take the crown when it launches this August.
