Upcoming Turn-Based RPGs September 2026

First off, I wanted to let you know that I’ve just refreshed the page covering all the 2026 releases, so you should find the information there much more reliable now. With that said, today I took a look at the September RPGs and Strategy Games releases that seemed the most interesting to me.

A month packed with indie titles, but also a few heavy hitters, or rather, absolute juggernauts. So get comfortable, grab a pen and paper, and start taking notes on how and where you’ll want to spend your hard-earned cash this month.

Deck & Conn – September 1

  • Developer: Funtime Electrics
  • Publisher: MicroProse Software
  • Platforms: PC via Steam
Deck and Conn

I open September’s new releases with a turn-based starship command game set in a Cold War-inspired version of deep space. In Deck & Conn, you take control of a nuclear-powered corvette and guide its crew through an ongoing interstellar conflict where equipment, personnel, and ammunition are always limited.

The dynamic campaign centers on war patrols, distress calls, crew promotions, system upgrades, and encounters with hostile vessels that can be destroyed or captured.

Individual tactical scenarios are also available outside the main campaign. Its combination of ship management and turn-based engagements makes Deck & Conn closer to an old-school command simulation.

Chaos Front – September 3

  • Developer: Han Zhiyu
  • Publisher: ChaosGalaxyStudio
  • Platforms: PC via Steam
Chaos Front

Created entirely by solo developer Han Zhiyu, Chaos Front is the latest entry in the Chaos Galaxy series. This time, the focus is on building a mercenary corps and navigating the Centersea Sector while several galactic powers fight for control of the region.

More than 100 named characters can become allies, enemies, employers, or political contacts, while the military roster includes around 70 battleships, submarines, mechs, fighters, artillery units, and other machines.

Individual units support specialized tactics such as stealth, mines, ramming, shields, electronic interference, and boarding actions. Mission choices and faction relationships can also alter the course and eventual outcome of the war.

Seven Blasphemies – September 8

  • Developer: Crit42 Studio
  • Publisher: Crit42 Studio
  • Platforms: PC via Steam
Seven Blasphemis

A literal countdown to extinction drives this traditional roguelike. Every new dawn in Seven Blasphemies can introduce another permanent curse, gradually changing the rules of the current run. Visibility might become restricted, healing may lose effectiveness, and monsters can grow increasingly aggressive. Once the seventh Blasphemy arrives, the world ends.

Movement and combat follow classic grid-based roguelike rules, with procedural exploration, limited resources, permadeath, and no guarantee that an apparently sensible decision will lead to survival.

Six playable classes provide different approaches, but the escalating doom calendar ensures that even a successful build eventually has to contend with a world collapsing around it.

The Legend of Fancy Realm Remake – September 9/10

  • Developer: USERJOY Technology
  • Publisher: USERJOY Technology
  • Platforms: PC via Steam
The Legend of Fancy Realm Remake

Steam currently lists The Legend of Fancy Realm Remake for September 9 in North America, while the European and Japanese launch falls on September 10.

Originally released in 1998, this story-driven tactical RPG returns with rebuilt visuals, revised systems, and new localization options. Battles emphasize formations, terrain, narrow chokepoints, character roles, and carefully timed abilities rather than excessive grinding.

Outside combat, relationships and major decisions can redirect the narrative. Companion loyalty, political alliances, and defining crossroads lead toward separate story paths and multiple endings.

Character development remains flexible through class transitions, hidden progression routes, manual stat allocation, and individually selected skills. It looks like a fairly traditional SRPG underneath the new presentation, which may be exactly what longtime genre fans want from the remake.

Roguecraft DX – September 10

  • Developer: Badger Punch Games
  • Publisher: Thalamus Digital
  • Platforms: PC via Steam
Roguecraft DX

After first appearing as a modern Amiga release, Roguecraft DX brings its deliberately compact dungeon crawling to PC. Each attempt begins by choosing one of three heroes: a hard-hitting Warrior, a teleporting Rogue built around backstabs, or a fragile Wizard equipped with powerful ranged magic.

The dungeon is procedurally rebuilt between runs, but the game avoids some of the heavier systems associated with traditional roguelikes.

There are no enormous command lists or lengthy item-identification processes, and a complete attempt is designed to take roughly half an hour rather than an entire evening. Temporary familiars can also be rescued and summoned during difficult encounters, including a badger capable of fighting enemies and retrieving otherwise unreachable loot.

Shroom and Gloom – September 10 – Early Access

  • Developer: Team Lazerbeam
  • Publisher: Devolver Digital
  • Platforms: PC via Steam
Shroom and Gloom

Team Lazerbeam’s fungal dungeon crawler enters Early Access with an unusual double-deck-building structure. One deck handles combat, while the other governs exploration, navigation, card modification, equipment discoveries, and new abilities.

Cards can be repeatedly grown and altered, allowing basic attacks to develop into elaborate combo pieces. Defeated mushrooms are not merely discarded, either: enemies can be seasoned, roasted, eaten to restore health, or thrown into a cooking pot to create useful soups.

The Shroom and Gloom Early Access build contains two pathways, each carrying its own characters and roughly 300 exploration and combat cards. The studio expects development to continue for approximately 12 to 24 months, with additional paths, classes, encounters, and challenges planned.

Frontier: Path of Shadows – September 10

  • Developer: Oduvan Games
  • Publisher: Oduvan Games
  • Platforms: PC via Steam
Frontier Path of Shadows

Hard science fiction replaces medieval fantasy in Frontier: Path of Shadows, a party-based tactical RPG set during the 25th century. Its story follows the crew of the battered corvette Simurgh as they explore remote planets, take mercenary work, and investigate a sentient crystal that has attached itself to courier-turned-protagonist Jay.

Combat takes inspiration from X-COM and Final Fantasy, with an emphasis on planning. Procedurally generated maps respond to earlier decisions, while equipment must be upgraded and maintained to prevent inconvenient breakdowns during missions.

Exploration, resource gathering, faction choices, and relationships with the Simurgh’s crew all feed into a branching story concerning the future of the Frontier.

Infinity: HexaDome Tactics – September 10

  • Developer: Blindspot Games
  • Publisher: Blindspot Games
  • Platforms: PC via Steam
Hexadom Tactics

Built around the competitive arena sport Aristeia, Infinity: HexaDome Tactics places two squads of futuristic champions inside objective-driven battlefields. Its 12 fighters cover ranged damage, close combat, support, and battlefield control, leaving team composition as important as individual attacks.

Every action consumes limited resources, forcing a choice between damaging an opponent, securing an objective, repositioning, or preparing for a later turn. Tactical cards add further ways to interrupt plans and create combinations between teammates.

Alongside its story campaign, the game includes specialized challenges, AI matches, friendly online duels, and competitive PvP. New champions and cosmetic rewards are unlocked as the campaign progresses.

Ex Sanguis – September 10 – Early Access

  • Developer: Lightbulb Crew
  • Publisher: Firesquid
  • Platforms: PC via Steam
Ex Sanguis

Ex Sanguis enters Early Access with one of September’s more distinctive tactical systems. Commanding warriors known as the Stillae, you fight through a dying black-and-white world where blood restores color and symbolizes resistance against the forces of Stasis.

The turn timeline is an active part of combat. Abilities can accelerate allies, delay enemies, or swap positions in the initiative order, setting up chains of actions before the opposition can respond. Environmental objects can be ignited or destroyed, while knockbacks, forced facing, flanking, blocked lines of sight, and damage-over-time effects provide further ways to control each encounter.

Its campaign uses a roguelite map with optional missions, resource detours, escalating difficulty, persistent unlocks, and customizable Stillae loadouts between attempts.

Forsworn – September 10

  • Developer: Resummon Studios
  • Publisher: Resummon Studios
  • Platforms: PC via Steam
Forsworn Tactical RPG

Party-building is the central attraction in Forsworn, a tactical roguelite designed around stacking increasingly powerful interactions. Its current roster contains six heroes with three subclasses apiece, supported by more than 150 items and over 200 abilities with separate upgrade paths.

A failed expedition leads to resurrection rather than a conventional ending, allowing the party to grow across repeated runs through a realm divided by divine warfare. Actions also charge character-specific Ultimate abilities that can break enemy formations, strengthen allies, or rescue an otherwise failing battle.

The campaign supports solo play and online cooperation for up to four people. Cooperative battles use simultaneous player turns, reducing downtime while still allowing the group to coordinate movement and ability combinations.

Sigilfarer: A Dice-Rolling Roguelite – September 14

  • Developer: Viabo Games
  • Publisher: Anshar Publishing
  • Platforms: PC via Steam
Sigilfarer

Instead of drawing abilities from a deck, Sigilfarer turns the entire party into a customizable collection of dice. Weapons, shields, armor, and other equipment add new faces to those dice, determining which attacks, defensive actions, buffs, and special abilities can appear during combat.

Parties can contain up to four characters, leaving room for specialized builds and interactions between different dice pools. The surrounding world is procedurally generated, so each expedition requires a new route through its hex-based landscape.

Camps, food, supplies, uncertain encounters, and branching paths create a continuing risk-versus-reward calculation: return with what has already been collected or travel farther and risk losing the expedition.

Another Eden Begins – September 16

  • Developer: WRIGHT FLYER STUDIOS
  • Publisher: WRIGHT FLYER STUDIOS
  • Platforms: Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam
Another Eden Begins

The time-traveling RPG follows Aldo as he journeys through antiquity, the present, and the distant future to rescue his sister Feinne and prevent the loss of their future. Scenario writer and director Masato Kato leads the project, with Yasunori Mitsuda composing its main theme.

Battles use a traditional command-based structure built around consecutive Chain Skills, and Another Force, which allows the group to unleash a rapid series of attacks. A total of 19 characters can join the adventure, each supported by encounter, character, and relationship quests.

Finishing the main storyline also unlocks New Game+, carrying the party into an additional journey with more than ten possible endings determined by earlier actions and decisions. The Nintendo Switch 2 edition supports improved performance at up to 60 frames per second and enhanced graphics with 4K output on compatible displays.

Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter – September 17

  • Developer: Nihon Falcom
  • Publishers: GungHo Online Entertainment America, Nihon Falcom, Clouded Leopard Entertainment
  • Platforms: PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam
Trails-in-the-Sky-2nd

September’s largest multiplatform turn-based RPG is the full remake of The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC. The story begins shortly after the ending of Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter, with Estelle Bright searching for Joshua while the secret society Ouroboros begins moving openly against the Kingdom of Liberl.

The remake retains tactical orbments, Crafts, positioning, and character-specific combat roles while continuing the modern battle structure established by 1st Chapter. One new addition is Brave Rush, a wide-area combination attack that pairs the active character with another party member in exchange for Brave Gauge points.

Because the plot directly continues the previous game and immediately addresses its ending, completing 1st Chapter first is strongly recommended.

ENDLESS Legend 2 – September 17 -Version 1.0

  • Developer: Amplitude Studios
  • Publisher: Hooded Horse
  • Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S
  • Release Type: Leaving Early Access

After spending almost a year in Early Access, ENDLESS Legend 2 reaches version 1.0 on September 17. The full launch also marks its arrival on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S alongside the existing PC version.

Amplitude’s fantasy 4X strategy game takes place on an unstable ocean world where civilizations compete for territory, resources, technological development, and political influence. Its asymmetric factions operate under substantially different economic, military, and diplomatic rules, while battles can either be resolved automatically or controlled directly on tactical maps.

Version 1.0 introduces the Sandshapers as the sixth major playable faction. This ancient civilization remembers the planet before it was covered by water and intends to transform it back into a desert.

The update also adds two Rogue Factions: the conquest-focused Order of Zelevas and the Severed Claw, a Necrophage offshoot that replenishes its population by enslaving members of other factions. Expanded endgame content, interface refinements, balance adjustments, and broader improvements based on Early Access feedback are also part of the full release.

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave – September 17

  • Developer: Intelligent Systems
  • Publisher: Nintendo
  • Platforms: Nintendo Switch 2
New Fire Emblem Game of 2026

The newest Fire Emblem sends its protagonist through time to guide four heroes whose stories are tied to an approaching catastrophe. Cai wants to free his imprisoned father, Dietrich searches for increasingly powerful opponents, Theodora hopes to fulfill her homeland’s ambitions, and the musician Leda is driven by revenge.

Combat retains the series’ familiar grid-based format, with unit positioning, class strengths, terrain, and army composition determining how each engagement unfolds.

Heroes can also use Blaze Arts, signature abilities that consume HP and fill a shared Blaze Gauge. Reaching the gauge’s halfway point grants a temporary power increase, but filling it completely triggers Burst, removes the bonus, and cuts the hero’s maximum HP in half.

Between tournament matches, the party can explore the capital city of Dagsion, recruit allies, train new techniques, strengthen Blessings, and build relationships at local inns. The surrounding world map contains quests, roaming enemies, resources, and dungeons, giving the group several ways to prepare before returning to the Heroic Games.

Demeo x Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked – Twilight’s End – September 22

Demeo
  • Developer: Resolution Games
  • Publisher: Resolution Games
  • Platforms: Steam with optional VR support
  • Release Type: Expansion; base game required

Twilight’s End is the third campaign for Demeo x Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked. It continues the adventure that began in Neverwinter Wood and Frost Keep, taking the party from the dwarven settlement of Mithral Hall across the Silver Marches, Icewind Dale, and other parts of the North.

The campaign introduces new weapons, monsters, locations, multi-level dungeons, and boss battles as reality begins to unravel under the influence of spreading chaos.

Solo play remains available, but the campaign also supports cross-platform cooperative parties of up to four. Only the host needs to own Twilight’s End; friends who own the base game can join the campaign as guests.

Yami Kids – September 22

  • Developers: Yanako RPGs and GameDevTosh
  • Publishers: Yanako RPGs and Silverbook Games Studio
  • Platforms: PC via Steam
Yami Kids

Creature collecting takes a darker turn in Yami Kids. Twins Yuki and Yuumi Yami are attempting to identify those responsible for killing their family while moving between the familiar Overworld and a far stranger Underworld.

More than 80 Oni can be contracted, summoned, trained, and used in traditional turn-based monster battles. The dangerous wrinkle is the Shadow Duel system.

These nighttime deathmatches pit the twins against rival Contractors and their Oni teams; losing sends the protagonists into the Underworld, where unusual locations and additional tasks must be cleared before they can return to the living world.

ONE FENIX DOWN – September 28

  • Developer: Regalcraft Games
  • Publisher: Regalcraft Games
  • Platforms: PC via Steam
One Fenix Down

September closes with a traditional, SNES-inspired RPG nearly a decade in development. ONE FENIX DOWN follows a young miner living in the Kingdom of Torloria, a nation still recovering from its war against the Goa Empire. When monsters return to the mines, he becomes involved in a wider conflict tied to his father’s legacy and a mysterious command to “protect Fate.”

The planned campaign runs for more than 40 hours and includes over 14 playable party members. Combat uses familiar turn-based foundations alongside elemental magic, martial arts, traps, stolen monster abilities, and character-specific Excedo skills charged through a dedicated meter.

Three difficulty levels are included, making the adventure accessible to newcomers without removing the option for more demanding battles.

These are, in my opinion, the best new releases coming in September 2026. Let me know what you think, and if I missed anything, I’ll obviously be catching up on anything I overlooked in the weekly recaps.
